hanakotobawakodoku:

I understand your feelings. I took me months to really understand Eric as a character, even begin to feel as though he was a good match for me.
I see that a lot on here — “good match”. But I’m starting to believe that idea is a bit crippling for writers. I think any muse paired with any writer can serve as a “good match”, or even a “great match”, no matter who they are. If you have dedication as a writer and you want to write Alan, then he is the right character for you.

And who says you have to have just one? If you want to write a bunch of characters from Kuro, then you should!

I think what’s more likely is that you’re not feeling up to writing right now (probably for a number of reasons).

Just know that plenty of rpers that love the muses that they write and even seem to have it all together actually do struggle. The moment that we become too comfortable with our characters is the moment that they stop growing and developing. As writers, that’s something I feel that we should avoid — becoming too comfortable.

Embrace the discomfort. Push through it. Better yourself and your character for it. Know that you are the only one that can bring what you do to Alan as character; and while you might struggle from time to time with replies or memes or writing, that’s something that is very valuable and makes you indispensable to those that follow and interact with you.

It’s true that there are multiple versions of your character on this site, even on the internet; but there is only one Alan that is written by you.

I suppose you’re right about that; about perhaps I’ve got too comfortable with my character and that along laziness and writing blocks are avoiding me from developing him.

I’ve noticed I don’t actually “have” him as a muse a few weeks ago, and it really made me want to change it. At first I wanted to completely edit the blog, and also the headcanons and all. I thought that could help me to feel better with him. But now (I bet most because of my headache and physical discomfort because of this illness) I thought if another muse I’ve had contact for a longer time wouldn’t be better for me.

At the same time it hurts me to think all I’ve done and conquered with this muse would be wasted if I changed. I have a really tight schedule now because of school, so I’d rather decide for keeping Alan or changing.

I want to follow your advice and develop him, but I’m unsure of the very thought of wanting him above other muses I could like more, maybe.

If it’s no longer fun for you, then it’s probably not worth it to stick to Alan. I just want to ensure that you know that you can if you want to. Rather, that you’re a capable writer and an outstanding Alan.

But if you only have time for one and you feel as though you’d have a better time writing a different character, I say go for it.
