Eric settled upon the edge of the younger reaper’s desk with a friendly smile, hands folded loosely over his lap. If he knew anything about Alan, he knew better than to let him know that the reason was to do with his health. “Yer on desk duty t’day, lad.” He’d just conveniently leave out the reason.
Slowly, Alan lowered his pen and straightened up, lips gradually pulling into a tight line. He would never want to admit that he was suspicious of Eric, but there was something off about the way he was acting. “I had a feeling that was the case…” he mused, his tone precise. “… But is there any given reason why?”
Alan had seen right through him, hadn’t he? No matter how sly he thought he was being, he was never clever enough to outwit him. “Oh, ye kno’,” He began, doing his best to keep his tone even, “Ye have plen'y o’ paperwork tha’ needs doin’.” As he gave his explanation, he knew that it wouldn’t pass.
And if Alan discovered that he was going to try to do the fieldwork on his own? Well. It wouldn’t be pleasant.
