Alan could not hide the frown sneaking onto his lips, his gaze firm on Eric. He was lying. The way he spoke was a dead giveaway. He was usually so relaxed, even while the two of them were working in the Dispatch. Now, however… it seemed as if his easygoing nature was forced — and honestly, it bothered Alan.

“I did.” His response came quickly, his gloved hand patting the stack of papers in front of him. “That’s why I came to work a little earlier than usual. I wanted to finish all of my paperwork so that I could work in the field today.” He paused, ringed eyes leering over the edges of his glasses. “… Unless there’s a problem with that?”

Eric cursed inwardly. He should have known it wouldn’t be so easy. Alan’s stubborn attitude always surprised him, and it really shouldn’t have. Knowing that the consequences would be far worse if he didn’t, Eric resigned to come clean. He chuckled softly, gaze warm on the his lover. ” … Ye catch on fast, dinnae ye?“
